We are officially in March! The last of our ‘high season’ months. Already we have noticed that the sun is rising later, the leaves of Cape Town’s majestic oak trees are starting to brown and the course seems a little quieter. There is no time to relax, however, as tomorrow is the start of our Clovelly Golf Festival! We hope that you are all able to join us as we celebrate our wonderful Club and our Members. This year’s theme is Hollywood and, as usual, there is a prize for best dressed! (See the poster below for a list of the days.)
We would like to extend a warm welcome to new members, Vernon Ten Oever and Filip Aleksic. We would also like to congratulate Jonathan Bernard, one of our very talented golfers, who has been chosen to represent Western Province Golf at the Senior Interprovincial Tournament to take place at Wingate Park in early April. Well done, Jon!
Hole-in-Ones at Clovelly
Starting off our newsletter on a high note, we have had two Hole-in-Ones achieved in the last two weeks! Congratulations to Bruce Neill who achieved his Hole-in-One on Hole 6 and to Alan Michell who achieved his FOURTH Hole-in-One on Hole 11. (This is not fourth in totality, it is fourth on Hole 11!) Well done to the both of you.
Raymond Ackerman Invitational Golf Day
Another highlight for Clovelly was the Raymond Ackerman Invitational Golf Day, in aid of the Raymond Ackerman Golf Academy, which took place last Thursday.
As usual, we went all out for this wonderful event. 128 players arrived for a 10:00am shotgun start and they were treated to a scrumptious breakfast before making their way to their carts where their bags and lunches had been prepared for them. They set off to their designated holes in time for the canon to be fired, all very smoothly despite the number of players exiting at once.
This year RAGA student, Zheograthia Sauls, was the lucky lighter of the canon. No matter how many times you watch the canon being fired, that boom always excites!
Once the players finished their round they were entertained by one of South Africa’s top comedy ventriloquists, Conrad Koch, and enjoyed sushi on the deck. The winners for the day were Nicholas Ackerman, Andrew Pretorius, Phil Davidson and Etienne van Wyk. Congratulations!
The whole day was wonderful. Everyone was happy and Clovelly looked great. Thank you to Karen Denman for organizing everything so efficiently, to the RAGA team, and of course the Clovelly staff. What a fantastic representation of our Club.
We would like to introduce you to our newest member of the Clovelly Team, Range Assistant, Denver Sassman. Many of you may know Denver has he is an experienced caddie.
We are delighted to have Denver on board and we wish him the best for his future at Clovelly!
How is your knowledge of the new rules of golf?
The R&A has kindly put together an online course on the new golf rules, free of charge.
Go on and find out how well you know the game! The more informed we all are, the better. You are able to work through the material at your own pace and once you complete the exam you will receive an official R&A certificate.
Book your fitting experience.
To book this awesome Taylormade M5 and M6 fitting experience please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Pro Shop on 021 782 6410.
Do you need a shuttle service?
Although not golf related, this is a question that we are occasionally asked. We can happily recommend Automotion should you need to be driven to/from Cape Town International Airport.
Little Adam Richardson modeling Rhode Island Youth clothing, new to the Pro Shop. Isn’t he cool?
Our Caterer, Carl, with RAGA Head, Shaddie. When Carl looks this happy you know that he must be in good company!
At this year’s AGM we had 29 RAGA students attend. Both Men’s and Club’s AGMs went smoothly, with very little questions asked. It was lovely to have the RAGA students attend, although they cannot vote, and Mr. Ackerman spoke of how well they were doing. RAGA Head, Shaddie, announced that they had a 100% Matric pass rate last year! What an achievement!
