We have had a tough couple of weeks. Recent crime seems close to home and our hearts are hurting with the rest of our fellow countrymen. To top it off, we lost a very special staff member on Monday.

In the time that Roger Booysen worked at Clovelly, he became a much-loved member of the family. Soft-spoken, humble and always prepared to help, Roger was indeed a precious soul. We have him and his family in our hearts and will miss him dearly. Rest well, Roger.

Despite the negative reports, we remember that there is so much good to South Africa! There is so much warmth and love in its people and we have faith that these qualities will shine through and overcome.

We hollow tined our greens this past Monday and Tuesday, and over the next two weeks, they will recover and become healthier than they were before. We hope for a similar renewal throughout our nation!

Below is a wonderful video of the Ndlovu Youth Choir that is bringing forward ‘happy’ tears across the country. Enjoy and be uplifted.

Upgrades to come

Also to be renewed soon are our course information boards. If you have played at Clovelly recently you may have noticed that our wooden display boards on the holes are looking tired. Now that the course has been re-stroked and our old scorecards have almost all been used, we have decided to replace these boards to incorporate the new information.
Wood is costly and requires ongoing maintenance, so instead, we will be replacing the boards with sandstone plinths, complete with black granite inserts. We would like to roll out sandstone as the preferred building material on the course and use the same stonemason to build all structures, ensuring consistency.  You’ll soon see the sites of the stone plinths marked out next to tee boxes. We think that they are going to look great!
Another component looking tired is the hedge behind the tee box on the 1st hole. This hedge has reached the end of its lifespan and we need to replace it.  We will use the opportunity to reshape the retaining wall, also in sandstone, to allow golf cars to move through the area more easily.  A new hedge will be planted but it will take some time before it reaches maturity.

Our Pro Shop is prepared to cut a deal!

If you’re on a budget but need new golf gear, you may feel the need to shop around so that you can score a bargain. Our Pro Shop welcomes you to give them the opportunity to match the price for your item of choice according to another dealer’s quote. We’re not saying that it is a guarantee, but they will try there best to help you so that you can do your shopping from the comfort of your home club.

Here and there

It hasn’t been all doom and gloom. Clovelly, in general, is a little piece of paradise. Our Michell Golf Junior Open Day was a lovely success, and Coach Dave’s Pitch n Putt the following weekend had over 50 young golfers attend!

Our RAGA students have been progressing under MichellGolf’s tutorship and new Head of RAGA, Annette Champion, has even given golf a go!

We were also happy to see little Evan Marais came second in ‘B’ Division in the Clovelly Junior Winter Series!
