It has been absolutely wonderful to have had two blissful weeks of golf at Clovelly! The Lockdown proved to us that without our members and staff, Clovelly Country Club is just a beautiful building with a beautiful golf course. So thank you to our members and staff for making us what we are! Even without prize-givings, laughing tables in the bar and congregations on the deck, having you back has been special!

Chammy & Matchplay
We’re slowly getting back into the swing of golf and some of the first tournaments that we are returning to are our Chammy Cup and Individual Matchplay knock-out challenges!

All COVID-19 regulations are still in effect, and as such there will be no prize-givings or gatherings permitted.
Until we are able to return to a two-tee-start, Wednesday afternoon competitions will start at 10:00 on the timesheet. As usual, Saturday competitions apply to the entire field.
Only one scorecard is to be dropped off at the Pro Shop per fourball, regardless of the format of the competition. The marker and player must sign the scorecard after receiving verbal confirmation from the remaining players in the fourball. A box will be placed in the entrance of the Pro Shop for scorecards to be dropped in.
Prize-giving will be done via Zoom the day after the competition. A link to the Zoom meeting will be published in the ‘Results’ section of our Spotlight Social Clovelly Community, with the time of the meeting, followed by a results sheet.
Please submit your scores using the HNA app or the HNA website. If you don’t have access to the app or website, you can email your scores to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. The handicap terminal will remain offline.
No ‘2 Club’ extras will be available.

If you haven’t downloaded Zoom and Spotlight Social, now is the time to do it! Both of these apps are free to download and user-friendly.
We have been using Zoom to host video meetings and conferences and we will now use this app to host our prize-givings. You can download it on both your phone and desktop. Just search ‘Zoom’ online or in your phone’s Playstore.
Spotlight Social is our own ‘club’ community app. We have a Clovelly Community and communities for the Ladies, MichellGolf, the Juniors and some private Clovelly Groups. Here, our members can post messages and ask questions for everyone to see and answer, we publish news items, we have a results section and a section to share images. The photo taken by Carey Askeland at the top of this newsletter was shared from Spotlight Social!
During Level 5 of Lockdown we started a raffle whereby anyone who downloaded the app and uploaded a profile picture could let Jessica Yiend, our Club Administrator, know that they had done so by emailing her on firstname.lastname@example.org, to be entered into a draw to win 10 free rounds! We will be announcing the lucky winner this Wednesday, 1st July! So if you haven’t downloaded the app, you still have time. Don’t forget to email 😀
In our last letter from our GM, Paul Stoner, he announced that we would be taking over the operations of the Clovelly Halfway House with immediate effect after Carl’s Catering left us on Friday, 12th June 2020. This is a new venture for the Club and one that we hope to keep inhouse. Within a week we have mobilized a very basic snack and cooldrink offering and have brought down our coffee machine, which seems to have been received very enthusiastically!
While the beverage offering is easy for us to insource through our Bar’s ordering and stock control systems, we are taking our time and gathering professional input and information on the food side before launching our official offerings. It is our intention to have a limited food offering available by the end of July. In the long term, the Halfway House as we know it will be different and will continue to operate in a ‘snack counter’ format, with a focus on pre-packed, healthy “grab and go” style foods. This will allow us to run the operation efficiently, making it sustainable for the future, while also contributing to an improved golfing experience and a better pace of play.
Thank you to Sebastian, Vivian, Nono and Florence for operating the Halfway House over the past few days. Having no previous experience, they dived into the job positively and it has been great to interact with them downstairs.
We hope that you all have a wonderful week going forward! Now that we are back on the golf course we ask that our golfers please do your part to maintain the standards of the course. Please fill divots using the sand-bags provided on the first tee – even if they are not your own, fix any pitch marks and, with no rakes allowed on the course, please make your very best efforts to smooth the bunkers using your club and/or your foot. The Pro Shop will stock mini-rakes that will be sold to our members at cost price soon. Our course staff work incredibly hard to provide us with a beautiful course and we appreciate your efforts to maintain it.
