We have officially entered the last week of winter and Mother Nature has decided to give us her all! We have had buckets of rain, a bit of hail, and there has been loads of snow fall in the Western Cape again. The freezing temperatures cannot distract from our happiness to receive more rain, which will benefit the course as we start preparing for our high season!
Hopefully the weather will warm up in time for this coming weekend, which will see Fish Hoek Beach celebrate its 12th Spring Splash event.
This annual event kicks off on Saturday, 1st September with an Empowerment Through Education (ETE) benefit themed dinner with raffles, fun, prizes and excitement. All proceeds go to the charity which educates underprivileged children from the townships of Ocean View and Masiphumelele. There will be raffles and prizes, auctions and music, dancing, dining and festivities. You can contact Nola on 021 782 3354 or firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
Sunday, 2nd September is a fun filled day for the whole family with the annual Spring Splash day. There will be lots of excitement and prizes galore, Little Mister and Miss Fish Hoek, a sandcastle competition, treasure hunt, music, line dancing and much more. The annual Spring Splash dash into the ocean to herald the dawning of a new spring will take place at 15:00, so bring your costumes and brave the waters! The shark nets are being specially deployed.
We hope that everyone is aware that Course Manager, Steven Webber, and his team will be carrying out course maintenance this coming Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th September. The course will be closed during this period.
While we are hollow tining the clubhouse and driving range will be functioning under limited hours. The driving range and bag room will be open from 08h00 – 14h00 on only Monday and the admin offices will be open from 8:00 – 14:00 on both days. The driving range facility will be offered free of charge to our members whilst they miss out on golf at their home course. The Pro Shop will be closed.
If you are still keen for 18 holes we have arranged reciprocity at Westlake, Steenberg, and Royal Cape. Enjoy!
We would like to congratulate Bookings Consultant, Simone Patterson, and her partner, Kyle Delcarme, on the birth of their beautiful little boy, Lecrae Kai Patterson. Lecrae was born on Wednesday, 22nd August, at 10:35, weighing a massive 4.3 kilograms! He is totally precious and we cannot wait to meet this new member of the Clovelly family!
Tips from the Pros
Putting Tip, Mike Michell
Using your Shoulders in the Putting Stroke
There are two main reasons we try get students to use their shoulders and maintain their “triangle”. See the picture below for an example of the triangle.
The first reason is that the correct use of your shoulders will minimize wrist movement, which in turn, will minimize putter face rotation, leading to a more square face angle at impact.
The second reason is that when you engage your shoulders, you are able to control your speed easier as you create a more pendulum-like stroke. This will lead to a more consistent speed, back and forward. Remember that decelerating or accelerating too fast on the down stroke leads to inconsistent speed control and will hamper your game.
his important technique will have positive affects throughout your next 18 holes! If you are struggling with your shoulders, or any other aspect of your game, come see us at MichellGolf, located at Clovelly’s driving range. Alternatively you can email us on email@example.com.
Well done, ladies!
On Monday, 13th August three teams of ladies set off to Somerset West Golf Club to represent Clovelly in the Western Province Irvin, Rutherford and Lefson Trophies.
We were delighted with the fabulous win of our Rutherford team entry, made up of Jacky White, Marnie Wolmarans, Joan Mauchline and Bev Roberts, pictured below left. Pictured below right are Marie Pardey, Kath Hach, Marilyn Hugo and Bruni Bensch.
The ladies had a tee time of 7:35am and we commend them on their commitment to waking up so early, in the middle of winter, to make it in time for this 36 hole event! Well done to all ladies who took part, and of course the winning ladies on a great result!
Whilst on the subject of our ladies, we would like to congratulate our league players, who are doing a fantastic job! Out of the four league divisions, Silver are in the top two, Bronze 2 are leading their group and Bronze 1 and 3 are in the middle of the pack.
There are only two matches left before the playoffs set for the end of October. Best of luck ladies!
