We have had another two beautiful weeks at Clovelly and have both happy and sad news to report on. Exciting beginnings, and emotional endings.
Congratulations to Paul and Jess
Undoubtedly the best event to report on is the wedding of Paul and Jess! We would like to congratulate our Golf Director, Paul Stoner, and the newest edition to the Stoner family, Jessica, on their recent marriage. Paul and Jess got married on Saturday, 11th August in a stunning ceremony. Jessica was the most beautiful bride, and Paul cleaned up pretty well too!
We wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
RIP Sandy Smith
Sadly, we have also had to say goodbye to a long standing member of our Clovelly family, Sandy Smith, after he lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, 25th July.
Sandy was a special part of Clovelly, and we offer our condolences to his friends and family, the Senior School of Clovelly, and the members of his regular fourball.
Chammy Cup Update
Two very exciting Chammy Cup games were played this past Saturday.
The first game saw current Chammy Cup champions, Wizz Good and Shyam Makanjee, take on Dave Thompson and Tim Henshall. This game turned out to be quite the humdinger, with Wizz and Shyam one down after the first nine holes but determined to gain ground. The tenth and eleventh holes turned out to be critical to the outcome of this match. Dave Thompson made a miraculous par at the tenth hole for a half, and at the eleventh hole he made birdie to win the hole. The final result was 3/2 to Dave and Tim
Our second game saw our Club Captain, Ian McPherson, and teammate, Rob Pilkington, take on Ian Gordon and Brian Papas. This game turned out to be a real battle.
Ian Gordon birdied the seventh hole to halve with his opponents and in it to win it, he achieved a second birdie on the ninth hole, ending all square after nine holes. The win was within reach when, at the thirteenth hole, Brian Papas made a brilliant birdie to go one up, and in the lead, they never looked back. The final result was 2/1 to Ian and Brian.
Laying the Path on the 13th
Jessica Green returns to the USA
Pictured below are Mike Michell, Jan Stals van Rooyen, Jessica Green and Alan Michell. We have so enjoyed having Jess back at Clovelly whilst she has been on break.
Jessica will be returning to Rogers State University in Oklahoma for her second year. She had a very successful first year, making it onto the Dean’s list for academics. She will return to ‘The Hillcats’ a much stronger player after a vigorous weekly program on and off the course with Alan Michell. Their hard work and dedication has dropped her handicap from 9 to 4 in 3 months.
“I enjoyed every minute of my time here at Clovelly working with Alan and playing with the Ladies on a Tuesday. Thank you to all the Ladies for always making me feel so welcome. Thanks especially to Alan for giving me his time and personal attention. I am inspired, confident and ready to take on the year ahead. I will miss you all and see you again in December”.
We are so proud of you Jess! Good luck for the coming year.
