We hope that all of our members and visitors are having a lovely week so far! It seems strange that the festive season is already over, and that we have entered into the first of our three busiest months of the year. After the festive rush, everything seems a little quiet!

One thing for sure is that we are all excited for this new year and all of the unknown adventures waiting for us ahead.

Monthly Mixed

On Sunday we held our first Monthly Mixed Competition of the year, kindly sponsored by our Club President, Mr. Raymond Ackerman. We were very encouraged to see that over eighty players had signed up to play in the fun competition. Unfortunately, from a golf perspective, but fortunately, from a drought perspective, the rain that we have all been hoping for chose Sunday to arrive. This led to many cancellations and in the end, after waiting a while for the rain to ease a little, only forty-four players made their way onto the course. The player’s spirits were not dampened, however, and we would like to thank these brave players for not only going out onto the course but for enjoying their games too!

Pictured below are Sunday’s winners; Jackie Shaw, Malcolm Shaw, Bruni Bensch and Derek Shaw. Congratulations!

Bridget Woodhouse, our Ladies’ Captain, would like to remind all players of how important it is to inform either herself or one of the members of her Committee if they have played in a competition but are not able to stay for prizegiving. Unfortunately, this happens often and is an insult to the organizers and sponsors of the competition.  Bridget has warned all players that if they do not excuse themselves from prizegiving, their prizes will now be awarded to another team. Sadly, Bridget had to put this warning into play during Sunday’s prizegiving. Please be sure to excuse yourselves the next time you have to rush home after a day’s play. Thank you!

Dave Parry’s Hole-in-One

One of our long-standing members, Dave Parry, scored a Hole-in-One on the 16th Hole today! Congratulations Dave! What an awesome way to start the year.

Club AGMs Coming Up

We would like to remind all of our members that we have the Club AGMs coming up in February. The dates are below:

Ladies’ AGM: Tuesday, 13th February
Men’s AGM: Saturday, 24th February
Club AGM: Saturday, 24th February

Our previous minutes and all other relevant information will be placed on a notice board in the golfer’s entrance downstairs. Please take a moment to look through everything and do not hesitate to ask if you have any queries.

Clovelly Golf Festival

We are also very excited to inform everyone that the wheels are in motion for our 2018 Clovelly Golf Festival!

We have chosen a Disney theme for this year’s festival and are in the process of securing amazing prizes for the best-dressed players on each day. Members will be able to book from 1 February, and visitor’s bookings will open at a later stage.

Club Competitions

We are super happy to announce a number of exciting additions to our club competitions in the coming months!

On 20th, January 2018 we will be hosting the Windhoek Lager International Pairsqualifying event, in conjunction with our usual Saturday competition. This is a fantastic opportunity for our members to take part in a national event and to, hopefully, win great prizes! The format for the day will be a Betterball Stableford, for both our competition and the event. There will be an entry fee of R80 to take part in the qualifying event, in addition to the normal competition fee. This is an opportunity not to be missed and we wish you luck! It will be fantastic to have some Clovelly members in the final competition!

We have also managed to secure sponsorship from an old friend of Clovelly’s, Bells Whisky, and their sister brand, Black & White Whisky, who will be sponsoring the ‘nearest the pin’ prizes weekly for either a Wednesday or a Saturday Competition. We are excited to have them on board!

Castle Free now available in the Bar!

Our Bar Manager, Sebastian Brown, has made sure that all of our non-drinkers can still enjoy the taste of beer, without any of the alcohol, by securing the newly launched ‘Castle Free’ in our Bar.

We love it and hope that you do too!
