Clovelly has had another quiet week, and the beauty of our surroundings has continued to amaze us!

June, 1st marked the start of winter and the rains on Saturday evening were a nice relief. They are, hopefully, a sign of things to come.  We are sure that everyone is aware of the forecast of a storm to hit our shores on Wednesday and Thursday, with wind speeds predicted to be between 80km/h – 120km/h. Be prepared to batten down the hatches! We hope that everyone keeps safe and that our dam levels rise!

Speed Roller Update

Our Speed Roller is now in full swing, and it would be fair to say that the results speak for themselves. The greens consistently measure around 9ft – 9.5ft on the Stimp Meter, with a smooth and even roll. We hope to see them go from strength to strength! It is great to see the funds raised from the “Clear Water Festival” being put to use for the members, from the members. Well done to you all for your contribution as a member of Clovelly Country Club for making this possible.

Ladies Section

On Tuesday twenty-four Ladies took part in an Alliance, 2 STC competition. The winners for the day were our Chairman, Pat van Heerden, Janeen Alford, Sharon Guild and Gill Briggs with 89 points, pictured above. Pictured below is the team in second place; from left, Margaret Gravenor, Marilyn Hugo, Pat Quill and Gail Crooks.

Callaway Fitting

As soon as the Ladies’ field had turned, our Pro Shop Manager, Iglin Grobbelaar, arranged a Callaway fitting on the 10th tee, where all the latest Callaway equipment was available for testing.

More of these fittings will take place in the coming months. The session is informative and interesting. If you are would like more information please be sure to speak to Iglin, or any of his awesome assistants.

Nedbank Private Wealth

Wednesday was the monthly Betterball Stableford competition, sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth. Once again, thank you to Tim Bellairs and his team for their contributions! Nedbank Private Wealth provides integrated banking, wealth advisory and investment management services to high-net-worth clients in South Africa and internationally. If you have any queries surrounding Nedbank Private Wealth’s offering please be sure to contact the club for Tim’s details, or even better, arrange a game with Tim at the next sponsored event on 28 June 2017.

Ending the Week

Thursday set the tone for the second half of the week. Clovelly was fortunate enough to host the ‘Blue Fund’ Golf Day. This was a small corporate event organized by the Bridge Fund Managers. Players to note in the field were Grant Hepburn, the CEO of RSA Golf, and Peter Little, the Manager of Junior Golf Western Province. The day was a fantastic success and we are grateful that Clovelly was the chosen venue. We will start to welcome more golf days as the year progresses, and we would like to thank our members for being so welcoming to these visitors. We sure do have a course and membership that does us proud!

Frankie’s Friday followed Thursday’s busy afternoon, with nearest the pin prizes generously donated by Tony Webb of Fine & Country, and our dreaded Saturday Monthly Medal competition came soon after. Thank you to Seeff for sponsoring this challenging competition! The conditions were extremely difficult, especially for the afternoon field, as a strong North-Wester picked up.

In the morning Peter McLeod won the A-Div on 71 net, Andrew Beattie won the B-Div on 72 net and Vaughn Williams won the C-Div on 66 net. In the afternoon the blustery winds made their mark! Wizz Good won the A-Div on 76 net, by default as our Head Professional Mike Michell shot an amazing gross 71 gross off a +1 handicap, but could not claim the prize as a professional. Barri Maggott won the B-Div on 73 net and finally, Peter Stroebel won the C-Div on 76 net.

On Sunday, we ended the week with the Monthly Mixed Competition, this time sponsored by our very own John Spyker, pictured above with George and Helen Bowes and Barbara and Andrew Spagnoletti, who won the competition.

This really is a fun event! If any members are curious, the competition takes place the first Sunday of every month and is followed by a lovely dinner from Carl’s Catering. It opens one month in advance; please join us! If you are a single player, put your name down and we will find you a partner.
