Clovelly has been wowed by nature lately! Promising rain clouds, gorgeous sunsets and beautiful rainbows have left our players speechless. With all of the terrible things happening in the world it is easy to forget how wonderful life is. We encourage you to take a moment to reflect on this; if that reflection takes place whilst playing 18 holes at Clovelly, even better!
Thank you to Course Manager, Steven Webber, for the below image and to Member, Will Wolter, for the above image. Thank you for sending them in! If anyone ever captures a beautiful moment at Clovelly we would love to see it!
The project on the 14th Dam has now been completed as a whole, bearing a few extra bits of tidying up here and there. The first official drops of water trickled into the dam on the evening of Tuesday 23rd May 2017. This can be seen below, there is still a long way to go to be full! We estimate that it will take around 2 weeks to fill up the dam to full capacity. Well done to Steven and his amazing team on completing such a fantastic project!
In other exciting news, our Speed Roller was also delivered last week Tuesday. This is an exciting piece of machinery which will allow us to enhance the current playing surface on our greens, which in turn will lead to a better roll and a more consistent green speed. the full benefits of this addition to our fleet of machinery will be best seen after consistent application over a number of weeks. We are looking forward to seeing the results.
Harry Solomon League
The Clovelly Harry Solomon Team has had a great start the season with two wins from two games. The wins were against Durbanville and Atlantic Beach, our next fixture is against Royal Cape on the 10th June 2017. If we manage to continue our run of form for this fixture we will guarantee a spot in the Round of 16. Below are some action shots of our League Players in battle against Atlantic Beach. On the top Padraic McMahon retrieves his ball from the hole on the 6th after sinking a monster putt for birdie to win the hole, while on the bottom Nico Snyman and Clinton Sissons discuss tactics on the 15th tee.
Michell Golf‘s Pitch n’ Putt Comp
On Saturday Michell Golf hosted the monthly ‘Clear Design Pitch n’ Putt Competition’ which had thirty juniors competing for the trophy. The winner of the day was 13-year-old Justine Thomas! Well done!
We would like to thank Bridget Woodhouse, who supplied some cute prizes for the kids, and as usual, Clear Design, for their sponsorship of the competition. Please look out for the next Pitch n’ Putt Comp next month; it is a blast!
Inaugural Cape Town Golf Festival
Clovelly Country Club is very excited to be chosen as one of four clubs to host the Inaugural Cape Town Golf Festival.
The Local Organising Committee for Seasonality is striving to increase tourism into Cape Town from May to September every year, and Mayor, Patricia de Lille, Fedhasa Cape, WESGRO, City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism and Accelerate Cape Town have put together a Cape Town Golf Festival for golfers residing outside of Cape Town, including Namibia, Zimbabwe and other African countries.
If you know any friends who would like to take part in this prestigious event, please let them know. Five days of golf and wine tastings have been organised, and it is definitely going to be a festival to remember. Hopefully, this will bring Cape Town’s golf offerings to the mind of foreign players and will be a popular event in years to come.
