We have had another beautiful week at Clovelly, with a bonus of gorgeous thunderclouds and lightning, and a couple of almost perfect golfing days thrown into the mix.

It looks like we have a cloudy, but windy, week ahead of us. This is great news for our attempts to conserve our water as cooler temperatures mean less thirsty greens! Hopefully, the wind will add a whole new dimension to your golfing skills too!

Granny Trophy & Turkey Trot

Despite the rain doing its utmost best to ruin our Ladies’ competitions, (don’t tell our ladies that we are in the middle of a drought, as so many of their competitions have been rained out over the last season that they won’t believe you) they have had two fabulous formats lately; the Granny Trophy and the fun Turkey Trot Competition.

Pictured above left is Helen Barrett with Jacky White, winner of the Granny Trophy, and to the right is Helen Barrett with Bruni Bensch, winner of the Non-Granny Trophy. Bruni is on a bit of a roll lately, as she recently won the Freda Ackerman Trophy too. Well done to both lovely ladies!

This last week we held the Turkey Trot Competition, which is always entertaining! Unfortunately, the ladies only played nine holes and were drenched in the process (and slightly battered by hail), but they all enjoyed a hearty meal cooked by Carl and Mantelli’s ensured that delicious cookies were available.

The ladies made an effort to bring the spirit of Christmas to the competition by wearing cute Christmas themed clothes and hats, and the decor in the dining room was beautiful!

Isn’t it exciting that Christmas is just around the corner? It is also a little scary, as we feel as if we could still be in March!

Congratulations to the winners of the competition, pictured below right, with Sandi Larkin leading the pack.

Subs Due Date – End of November

By now all of our members should have received reminders to pay their outstanding subscription fees, for which the invoices were sent out in September. All unpaid members will be made inactive on Friday, 1st December and will not be able to check into the Pro Shop as a member. Please contact our membership secretary, June Featonby, if you need to arrange payments or payment plans. There is no reason to sit on the fence with the decision; Clovelly is an awesome club and we want all of our members to stay with us for years to come!

Welcome, Adam!

Adam is new to the golf industry but comes with a strong administration background and has had his fair exposure to sports. Adam has achieved Western Province colours for boxing and is a keen fisherman. We would like to welcome him to the team and are sure that he will fit in perfectly with the “Clovelly Family”.

MichellGolf Junior Fundraising Golf Day

On Thursday, in partnership with MichellGolf, we hosted a golf day in order to raise awareness and funds for our Junior Development Programme at Clovelly. This a section of the Club which is continuously growing, and is vital for the long-term sustainability of our Club and the game of golf.

A perfect example of our successful junior programme is young Oliver Malyon, (pictured in the image below right, the young guy on the left) who on this day played his first 18 hole competition. Oliver is only 7 years old and is our youngest handicapped member at Clovelly. We think that he is super cool and we are looking forward to welcoming many more like Olly!

We had a field of over 100 players take part and through all avenues of fundraising, we managed to pull together over R10 000, which is solely due to all of our wonderful members who took part in the competition and bought raffles. These funds will be allocated to our Junior Development Fund, which is used for the updating of important junior teaching aids, the funding of structured golf clinics, and the enlisting of promising juniors who will one day represent Clovelly in the WPGU Junior Leagues.

None of this would have been possible without our fantastic sponsors who include Clear Design, who have supported our Junior Programme from the get-go, and Cape Town Fish Market Tokai, whose lovely assistants are pictured below left and who provided the amazing sushi for all our contestants. We must also thank Sebastian, our Bar and Functions Manager, for arranging a beer tasting with Denis da Silva of SAB (pictured below right) along with a delicious wine tasting.

Everyone had a great fun, and the winners of the day were Mike Stefanski and Ashley Falck, who won a count on 49 Betterball Stableford points. Once again, thank you to our members. If you are interested in getting involved in Junior Golf at Clovelly please contact MichellGolf or our Golf Director, Paul Stoner.

Sotheby’s & STBB 9 Holes & Braai

Please remember that we will be hosting the Sotheby’s & STBB 9 Hole and Braai Competition on Sunday, 10th December. This is going to be the perfect, relaxed family event to end the year off!

Coach Dave will host his fabulous Pitch n’ Putt Competition on the Range whilst the golfers enjoy their nine holes of golf. Both Sotheby’s and STBB have fabulous prizes and activations planned, we have secured the awesome Dusty Rhodes Band to keep us entertained, and Carl has a delicious braai planned.

It is only R180 per player, which includes your food. Braai packs will be on sale for R100 each, and Carl will have a basic menu and boerie rolls for the kids.

We hope that you can joing us!
