We have had a beautiful week at Clovelly and, along with our greens, we have been enjoying the cooler temperatures! Our greens have been recovering well after our busy season and the little rain showers that we have received have also helped. We have just one more major event, our Men’s Club Champs, before they will receive a little maintenance over Hollow Tyning on 9th & 10th April.

Paul Stoner, our Golf Director, has organised reciprocity with some clubs in the area. Please call our Bookings Office on 021 784 2100 for more information. Please remember that all offices will be open from 8:00 – 14:00 over Hollow Tyning. The Pro Shop and Restaurant will be closed. Our Range will be open from 7:00 – 16:00 on Monday 9th and from 7:00 – 13:00 on Tuesday 10th. As our Pro Shop will be closed, all members can make use of the Range’s facilities for free!

Ladies’ Club Champs 2018

We are so proud to announce that MichellGolf student, Isabella van Rooyen, has become the 2018 Clovelly’s Ladies Club Champion! Isabella, pictured below with Birdie Jenkinson, has only recently turned fifteen and is still relatively new to the golf scene. She is a determined golfer and plays at least twice a week. She can be seen practicing with her Dad, Golf Committee Member, Jan van Rooyen, and brother, Jan Stals van Rooyen, often. We are so happy that her hard work and determination has paid off so well and we’re excited for her future in golf! As her first tournament, we are amazed at her composure at such a young age. Most of our younger golfers, and more seasoned too, get quite nervous and have affected games as a result. Isabella remained calm and positive, and is a deserving winner!

Just behind Isabella was Lauren Sobotker, pictured below left, previous RAGA student and Clovelly employee. With 173 points, she was only one point behind Isabella, which is also a fantastic achievement after not having played golf in a year. We hope to see more of her at Clovelly in the future. Karen Denman, pictured below right, came in third with a score of 175, counted in ahead of Wendy Warrington.

Pictured above left is Sharon van Schalkwyk and to the right is Joan Mauchline. Below, clockwise from left, is Ann Booth, Alizwa Maqala,Olivia Wood and Maggie Martin,

We also had the sweetest bunch of RAGA students join the Club Champs! It was lovely to have them, and to see Alizwa win the Copper Cup!

The rest of our Ladies Club Champs results can be seen in the results section at the bottom of the newsletter. Well done to all players and thank you to the Ladies Committee–Anne Keable, Birdie Jenkinson, Joan Mauchline and Captain, Bridget Woodhouse, and to Lilian Brand, Robin Brand and Chris Goldsbury, who all gave so much of their time, helping to create a wonderful event!

Our Men’s Club Champs will be taking place in just ten days time! Entries closed yesterday, but if you have forgotten, please send your form and payment through as soon as possible so that we can include you. We will be doing the draw soon so there is not much time!

WPGU Harry Solomon League 2018

It is that time of year again! As we head into winter our next batch of WPGU leagues kick off, with the headliner being the Harry Solomon handicap league. All male golfers with handicaps ranging from 10 – 18 are eligible to participate. An exact schedule has not been released yet but the league season runs from April – August and fixtures will be played on Saturday afternoons.

If you are interested in representing Clovelly please contact our Golf Director, Paul Stoner, on golf@clovelly.co.za. We are looking forward to a great season!

Roads Closed this Saturday!

Please will all of our Saturday morning players remember that the Main Road will be closed from 7:00-9:15 this coming Saturday due to the Two Oceans Marathon. We will all of the entrant the best of luck, and hope that all of our players will make it through! You can view the Two Oceans website for road closure details.

Junior Drive

In an effort to encourage junior golf, our Golf Committee have decided to set a rate of only R 110 per junior golfer, regardless of the time of year or the junior’s SAGA affiliation.

We are really hoping that all junior golfers in the Western Cape will take advantage of this offer, so that we can help secure the future of golf and enjoy our younger golfers in the area! Coach Dave of MichellGolf also has a brilliant junior program for any kids wanting to get into the game or improve, so hopefully we will see a steady increase in numbers.

MichellGolf’s Ladies Beginner and Intermediate Course

MichellGolf will be hosting another Ladies Beginner and Intermediate Course. This is such a fun, relaxed group of lessons and we strongly recommend that you join if you’re interested. It works out to about R 167 per lesson, which is such a bargain, and Alan or Mike will make sure that they give you individual advice too so that you will walk away a stronger golfer!

Clovelly Hikers

We are very impressed with the below group of Clovelly members! The Clovelly Hikers, from left, Nicholas Vaudrey, Terry Page and Anthony Kent, successfully climbed Groot Krakadouw, the second highest mountain in the Cederberg during a three-day hike over the weekend. Hot soup on a cold summit was very welcome.

Guessing that these three members don’t need carts to complete their rounds! Well done!

Well done, Patience!

We would just like to take the time to congratulate Patience, one of our awesome bar waitresses, who sold 282 raffle tickets for the festival! She worked so hard that Management rewarded her with a voucher to Pick n’ Pay as well as two additional days of paid leave. Well done Patience!

Wishing all of our readers a wonderful week!
