We would like to wish all of our Jewish readers a very happy Rosh Hashanah! We would also like to acknowledge Heritage Day. South Africa is a wonderful country, and we certainly have got some of the best of it down here. With all of the upheaval going on, it is easy to get distracted, but here’s to living with some of the best people, in one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

We invite you to join us and experience our warmth and beauty firsthand! We are getting busier by the day, and we’re loving it.

We have two fabulous achievements to mention!

Firstly, Dave Liebrecht, a Member of Clovelly for fifty-two years, achieved a ‘Hole-in-One’ on the 11th a couple of weeks ago. Funny enough, he remarked to his fellow players as he approached the tee, that “forty-nine years ago he got a hole-in-one on this very same hole”, before taking his shot and getting another! He wasn’t even aware of his hole-in-one at first. Congratulations, Dave! What an awesome achievement.

Our second achievement came after months of grueling matches and eliminations during the Chammy Cup Challenge! At the end, good friends and fellow players, Wizz Good, Shyam Makanjee, Duncan Johansen and Stephen Thomas found themselves teeing off against each other this past Saturday.

Wizz and Shyam got off to a great start by making a birdie on the 1st hole, to go 1 up. By the 5th hole, Duncan and Stephen had fought back and were 1 up. After 9 holes, both teams were tied, and it looked like it was going to be a titanic struggle!

Wizz and Shyam came out firing! They won the 10th hole and at the 11th hole, Shyam hit his tee shot within one meter of the hole. He putted for a birdie, winning them the hole and enabling them to be 2 up against their opponents. Although Stephen and Duncan were 2 down with 7 to go, they continued to battle it out, but eventually, Wizz and Shyam won the match 4 and 2.

Wizz and Shyam have been a great combination throughout the tournament, Wizz playing steady golf, with Shyam, off a 19 handicap, coming in with the occasional birdie and pars. Well played, worthy champions!

Changes in the Bookings Office

After a year of amazing service, we are sad to say that Monique Swanepoel will be leaving our Bookings Office after receiving a great opportunity to join Westlake Golf Club’s Pro Shop Management team. We wish her every success!

On a happier note, we are excited to welcome Simone Patterson and Munashra Meyer into the Bookings Office. Many of you will recognise Munashra, as she is one of RAGA’s wonderful past students. We ask you to please be patient whilst they are learning everyone’s names and our procedures. Unfortunately, they are starting at the change of season and only have a few months before they find themselves in the ‘deep end’! We are very confident in the both of them and are sure that they will bring a new dynamic to the Bookings Office.

Clear Design Pitch n’ Putt Day

On Sunday, 24th September MichellGolf held another ‘Clear Design Pitch n’ Putt Day’ which was a roaring success! Forty children arrived to enjoy the day, with over half of them entering the competition! The kids had the opportunity to play cricket, soccer and spoil themselves with candy floss and boerewors rolls.

There was also a beginner adult competition so that parents and friends could get involved. Congratulations to Riaan Marais, who won the men’s division, and to Charmaine Malyon who won the ladies’ division!

It was a spectacular day, and we really hope that you can join us for the next one in October! Come and enjoy our jumping castle, music and beer garden (for the adults).

We would like to thank staff members, Hein and Maynard, who always do such a fantastic job of setting up the event, and of course our Sponsor, Clear Design!

Spotted at Clovelly

Pictured below are September’s Ladies’ Medal Winners, Gill Davies and Lavi Rend. Gill, winning the Silver Division, commented that she has been playing golf at Clovelly for twenty-three years and this is only the second Monthly Medal that she has won. She was delighted, as were we to have one of our ‘Working Ladies’ able to take some time off and join us during the week.

Lavi Rend, who practices often and is determined to improve her golf, was also thrilled to receive her first ever Bronze cup. Well done to both ladies!

Carl’s Catering’s staff dressed to impress to celebrate Heritage Day, and they looked lovely!

Coming Soon

False Bay Folk have arranged for Jamie Jupiter and Fintry to play at Clovelly on Tuesday, 3rd October!

Jamie Jupiter is an uplifting and soulful multi-instrumentalist.  He combines his rich, soothing voice with guitar, harmonica and ethnic instruments to create a deep and diverse easy-listening yet edgy experience. Fintry is a unique sibling band, who perform acoustically driven (mostly original) songs with folk, blues, African, Celtic and country influences, close harmonies, and beautiful intricate guitar picking.

To book, please call Carl’s Catering on 021 7822920.

Next, we have another lovely fund-raising event held by Fringe Retro Salon taking place. These are always enjoyed and we would love for you to join us!
