Clovelly has had a rather quiet week as our greens recover from Hollow Tyning and we welcomed a little more rain.

We are happy to note that the Leopard Toad breeding season is also coming to an end so they shouldn’t be on the roads for much longer! Hopefully, by this time next year, a whole new generation will be gracing us with their presence!

Pro Shop has been Temporarily Relocated

Whilst our Golf Director, Paul Stoner, is out exploring Rome with his fiancee, Jessica Edgar, his office has been claimed by staff from the Pro Shop, as the Pro Shop is undergoing renovations.

Until the job is finished, which will be, hopefully, by the end of the week, there will only be limited clothes and gear for sale and unfortunately, checking in may get a little cramped! We thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Clovelly’s Flag Flown Again!

We are very proud of our Teaching Pros, Mike and Alan Michell (pictured below left), who just took part in the Western Province Regional Club Pro Tournament, which was held at Stellenbosch Golf Club over the last two days.

Mike won the tournament with a 3 under total and Alan came second with 1 under, after two rounds.

As part of the tournament, there was a team’s competition, and Clovelly member’s Ron and Steven Dunn (pictured below right) joined the Michell brothers. In the team’s event, Ron Dunn and Mike Michell came second with 86 points for the two days and Steven Dunn and Alan Michell came third with 85 points.

Congratulations guys!

League Update

Wow! This week both our Men’s League sides bounced back with outstanding victories.

Firstly, our Mid-Am side won 7-1 against Steenberg with the away side winning 4-0. The highlight at Steenberg was Gareth Wobbe who won 6/5. Our Mid-Am home side managed a very comfortable 3/1 victory.

Our Masters’ side played phenomenal golf against a very competitive Rondebosch side. A brilliant combination of Richard Goveia and Wizz Good achieved 43 points. Richard scored an awesome 70 gross and had the support of a solid 75 gross from Wizz. They were backed up by the consistent and talented pairings of Jon Bernard and James Wight who scored 38 points, as well as Craig Small and Ian Hutchison who played away at Rondebosch. Craig and Ian’s steady golf gave Clovelly the crucial winning point!

It is evident that both teams have an unbeatable team spirit and it is fantastic to watch them in action. Well done!

Tips from the Pros

Learning how to turn effectively:

To get the correct feeling in your backswing, try this drill below. This drill will enable you to turn your right shoulder and hip behind you, avoiding lateral movement in your backswing.

Firstly, start in your normal play position, feet shoulder distance apart, with your hands on your hips. Turn, as if to face someone behind you, keeping your hands on your hips.

Then repeat; this time keeping your eye on the ball! This will give you your perfect backswing!

Golf Days at Clovelly

We are looking forward to welcoming the Western Province Senior Women Golfers to Clovelly this coming Friday! Our next golf day will be the Corporate Cup Golf Day on Thursday, 28th September and starting from October, we will have a golf day nearly every week!

Golf days are a lovely way to expose our beautiful Club and we really enjoy having all of the new faces at Clovelly. Our visitors are always so complimentary of Clovelly and our members, and we would like to thank you for being so welcoming! Especially those members that are often keen to join the golf days, which are frequently in aid of charities

If you want to play on a day that a golf day is booked, put your name down on the waiting list and we will contact you as soon as any times are released!
