We have had another lovely week at Clovelly, and are so grateful for the rain that we received too! We are celebrating, with the rest of the South Peninsula, the waterfalls on Ou Kaapse and Boyes Drive, which usually start to flow much earlier in the season!

A little more rain is predicted for the weekend, so we have that to look forward to! Hopefully, it won’t have too much of an impact on our weekend golfers. Speaking of the weekend, please join us on Friday evening as we welcome the weekend and enjoy Carl’s flavourful Friday meals whilst we listen to the Dusty Rhodes Band! Their poster is further below for more information.

Update: Projects at Clovelly

Our Ackerman Hall is complete! We encourage you to come and have a look at this transformed space. Hopefully, you will like it as much as we do. At the moment, the Dining Room is going through the same process, as well as having her tired window frames replaced by shiny, new aluminum frames.

We have successfully installed two heat pumps, which will supply our Clubhouse with hot water at a greatly reduced rate of power consumption – perhaps by as much as 40%!

On the Course, we have some more gum trees which are being removed behind the 6thgreen in preparation for the establishment of a natural fynbos flower bed. As sad as it is to lose such amazing trees, this is in favour of indigenous plants which will have a positive impact on the environment and wildlife, whilst also allowing an increase the amount of winter sunlight which reaches the back portion of this green. More warmth and better evaporation sound good to us!

Talking about fynbos…we have two jars of our lovely Clovelly honey left for sale in the Bookings Office. We will be getting our next batch soon, but there may be a bit of a gap. Don’t miss out.

Clovelly Staff Champs

On Monday, 3rd July Clovelly hosted the Staff Championships 2017. Forty-four members of staff, including members of greenskeeping, cleaning, administration, caddying and golf operations, took to the field. This event allows for staff from all the departments of Clovelly to come together and have some fun while strengthening their relationships. For the first time, we had four admin ladies in the field too.

Well done to Peter Mampies, (pictured above left) who was the winner of the ‘A’ Division, with 42 points, and Bennie Frans, who won the ‘B’ Division with 39 points, and of course to the rest of the staff who took part! It is awesome to be part of such a dynamic team!

Thank you to Les Chivell for the amazing images that he took of the competition.

A Busy Friday

After a pretty quiet week, on Friday Clovelly held the seventh Frankie’s Friday Competition of the year and the second quiz of the year, this time on general trivia.

Clive Mildenhall, Ken Jenkins, Terry Page and Mike Tiffin won the golf on Friday, with a score of 88 points in the Alliance format. George Bowes, Helen Bowes, Phil Mason and Dawn English narrowly missed the win by a count out! The nearest the pins for the day, sponsored by Fine and Country, were won by Roger Maslin, Vic van Schaik, Gary Smith and Tina Davies.

After the Friday Night Draw and prize-giving, a crowd gathered in the Ackerman Hall to test how sharp their skills were off the course in the quiz. There was a great turnout with over 70 people taking part, and Carl’s delicious food offerings helped make sure the evening was one to remember.

The categories ranged from Sport to History and there was even a General Ignorance category. It was a fierce contest for the top spot with the “Over 55s” and “Them and Us” trading blows right until the last round. Eventually “Them and Us”, captained by Bridget Woodhouse, managed to take the lead and claim the top spot by 2 points.

All of this would not have been possible without the fantastic organisational skills and dedication from Robin and Lilian Brand. A special thank you must be extended to them for running the evening, and sorting through all the “interesting answers”!

Dusty Rhodes at Clovelly

We have another exciting Friday ahead of us as the Dusty Rhodes Band will be performing at Clovelly. Bring your family, have a meal and enjoy this fabulous band!
